Program Highlights
In August 1998, Sempra Energy International (corporate parent to San Diego Gas & Electric Co.) was awarded a 10-year agreement by Mexico's Federal Electric Commission (CFE) to provide a complete energy support package for Rosarito, Baja California.
Sempra is constructing a 23-mile pipeline from the California-Mexico border to their Rosarito plant. Construction is expected to be completed in the 4th quarter of 1999, with distribution of natural gas expected to begin in 1999.
When complete, the pipeline will move up to 300 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Sempra has four deals in Mexico to provide natural gas services in the cities of Rosarito, Mexicali, Chihuahua and Torreon.
Sempra has announced that in 1999 it plans to invest $59 million in Mexico to develop its natural gas distribution projects.
Over a ten-year period, Sempra expects to invest nearly $1 billion in Mexican energy projects."
